SMARTIES. There are fifteen in a roll. I eat them three at a time. In color coordinated sandwiches. Like purple-white-purple. Or orange-green-orange. It always works out. Sometimes I end up with yellow-yellow-yellow, which is ok, cause it still follows the rule :) I'm not sure why I do this - I just do - without even really thinking about it - always have :)

Wedding Weekend

Way back when T and I first started talking about getting married and weddings - we knew we wanted to do something small with family - we wanted to spend quality time hanging out with our families - and we wanted our families to have a lot of time to get to know each other. I know some people were a little worried about 3 days of activities - and thought they'd be bored after day 1 - but I don't think that was the case. We had a wonderful time with our families leading up to the wedding! Thanks to everyone who took the time off work and traveled to be with us!!!! It was a very special weekend :)

Thursday night, those who were in town headed over to Narrows to eat at Anna's. They serve a southern buffet dinner and have live bluegrass on Thursday nights. The pouring down rain outside didn't deter our fun inside! It was a really good time and a great atmosphere for first introductions and getting to know each other. More Anna's Pictures
We spent Friday afternoon at a place called New River's Edge. Pretty much a playground on the river about 20 minutes from Blacksburg. There's a huge pavilion where we served lunch. Horseshoes, Cornhole, Volleyball, really any game you want to play. A fire pit, tons of chairs to relax in, a gazebo. Canoes, Kayaks. Fishing. A lodge with real bathrooms. The place can't be beat. It felt kinda like a family reunion :) The owner Paul Moody could not be a nicer guy. Paul and his wife went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. We look forward to fishing with Paul and more outings at 'The Edge'. More River Pictures
Friday night everyone came over to 101. Yvonne catered an amazing meal! It was fun to show everyone our house, to hear the kids screaming and laughing in the backyard, and to relax with everyone. By this time almost everyone was in town so it was a full house! More 101 Pictures
Sat morning some of the guys got up really early and headed over to Castle Rock in Pembroke to play in the Giles County Chamber of Commerce Tournament. They didn't come home with any trophies - but I think some won door prizes - and I know they had fun! While the guys were golfing - the women headed over to Classic Body Image Salon and Day Spa. We got massages, facials, manicures, pedicures, make-up, and hair done :) What a relaxing morning! Thanks again to Yvonne for bringing in our lunch, and mom for making the Mimosas :) Sorry I don't have pictures.
I don't think we could have found a better home base for the weekend. Inn at Riverbend was an amazing setting. The fog over the river every morning, an amazing breakfast, Linda the Innkeeper making sure all was good, the guys playing Tiger Woods Golf on the WII, a fun place to spend the weekend with family! New Light at 101!!

Our memorial day weekend included some relaxed time with friends, fishing on the river with the dogs (pics soon), and some work :) Also 4 trips to Lowes :) T & I are quite proud of our electrical skills :) And the fact that we are still happily married after such projects :)

Then I got the bright idea I could turn the cords into a plug and just run it across the ceiling and down the wall. I think the results are sweet!
Plus now we can play pool/ping pong after dark. It's hot! You need to come check it out!

All my girlfriends rock! I'm so blessed to have friends that travel hours and timezones by car and plane to spend a weekend chillin at the lake :)
I was a little worried things might be awkward since I was blending friendships from many eras of my life - some of whom had never met. Not sure why I was worried! Again my friends rock :)
It was a fun weekend of stories, laughter, new friendships, games, bonding, cooking, wine, and memories. I can't imagine a better way to spend my bachelorette weekend :)
Here's the group at Peaks of Otter Winery. I'd highly recommend heading to Bedford for the taste testing if you like to try new things, they have some interesting fruity wines. Beware of the sketchy guy that hits on all the ladies!
Another fun place in Bedford is Olde Liberty Station. It's a quaint restaurant in an old train station house. Here we are after lunch. I think I'll be planning a girls weekend every year - no need to have an excuse like a wedding :)

Cash - appropriate

Turns out Cash might be the perfect name for our little puppy. Because of his congenital birth defect, we made an appt to have him checked out by a vet before we finalized the adoption. The foster home had addressed the issue as minor - not a problem now, but might need a skin graft later in life if it starts causing problems.
That's an understatement (and misleading).
He has a couple issues. First - there's a 'skin attachment' that prevents his penis from moving in and out of the sheeth (she used a fancier word) properly. The result is part of his penis is always exposed - and his flow points towards the back. Possible fix - snip the piece of skin and hope if functions properly. Not too bad.
#2 - His penis isn't where it's supposed to be. It's between his back legs and not attached to the skin so it points straight down. Plus the proportions are kinda wrong. She said there's a bone that's in the wrong location. The result - he pretty much sits on it - plus the eliminating issue. Possible solution - attach it to his body so he's not sitting on it the way it should be - and hope it still functions properly. (but it's still in a bad place)
Or she mentioned possibly getting rid of the penis and making him pee like a girl so he'll have no more problems with it - WHAT!
Last but not least. Neutering. Hmmm -- where are his testicles? Internal. He's just all out of whack down there. Not really a problem. But way more expensive surgery. Yikes!
So before we leave she takes him to show another Vet in the office since his situation is pretty unusual. This is where it gets interesting. She comes back into the room and says 'He just added a whole new theory' - 'He might be a she'. Apparently they've seen two other cases where a female was born with some remnants of a penis. Very interesting. And again 'sounds expensive'. My next question - 'how do we tell?' Ovaries? Testicles?
She's consulting with other Vets and hopefully we'll get more information on Monday. Hopefully one of the docs over at the Vet School will find this all very interesting - and do all the procedures for free! The foster home claims he could raise some funding from grants since Cash is a rescue dog - but I'm not holding my breath or counting on that. I'm afraid if funding isn't available in some way or another we might not be able to keep him. I know a con of two dogs is more expense - but I wasn't counting on that being to the tune of hundreds (maybe thousands) of dollars. Especially not right off the bat. I feel really bad for Cash - he such a sweatheart. I want to see all his issues resolved and be a loving home for him!

I went to Roanoke last night to check out a used canoe for Todd and came home with it!
It's a Bell Morning Star. A brand out of Minnesota and apparently very popular in that area. It's considered a touring canoe - Here's the online description: The MorningStar is at home on all types of water. It maneuvers nimbly due to its shorter length, but will hold plenty of gear for a long weekend trip. Crossover tandem and solo capability make this the perfect cabin canoe and pocket tripper. Available options: center seat.
It's made out of Royalex which is somewhat light (55 lbs) and very durable for our rocky rivers. Again from the website: Royalex® is a resilient canoe material consisting of a stiff foam core sandwiched between rigid ABS shell layers clad in a vinyl inner and outer skin. The qualities of durability and impact resistance make Royalex the ideal hull material for rocky, moving water applications where impact and abrasion are inevitable. We use heavier gauge Royalex for our River Touring and Whitewater canoes to ensure longer hull life and greater durability. In addition, our design engineer creates unique sheet specifications for each individual canoe. Appropriate structural reinforcements are specified to maximize strength and durability without adding unnecessary weight.

Finally Caught Up

With Lost that is. Tonight marks the first time we get to watch Lost 'live'. That is if I can stay awake :) I'm going to make sure the DVR is set and more importantly has some blank space :)
Also announced: The show will conclude in the 2009-10 season.
I think that means 3 more seasons. It will be interesting to see what the writers come up with. At the rate they kill people off I'm not sure anyone will be alive on the island in 2009! Who's history don't we know yet? Hopefully it won't get too stupid :)

Proof I'm CRAZY!!

Those who know me well know I'm not exactly an animal person. We had a couple dogs growing up - but I haven't spent much time around one since early high school. Animals (from cats to lizards to rabbits) actually scare me very easily. So it's been a process getting to know Grisman. We've had a love/hate relationship that's been improving over time. The dog obedience class was a big help!! How can you not grow to love this adorable face :)
One of the lessons we learned was 'a tired dog is a good dog'. Pointing out what we already knew - Gris needed more exercise. Which we've been trying to give him! Over the last couple months we've visited some friends who have dogs and Gris has done great playing with them. So Cute!
T and I had been talking about finding a playmate for Gris. We weren't actively searching for another dog - but decided if one came to us, we'd consider it. Well Sat night when we were going into Food Lion we noticed some dog fliers on the bulletin board. There was an adorable picture of a bro/sis coon hound pair the breeder was unable to sell and were in foster care waiting to be adopted. I'm not sure what got into me - but I was the one who tore off the phone number!!
Well.... Sunday night we went to meet the pup - and brought him home for a three day trial. He's very cute and awkward. Grisman isn't quite sure what to think yet - he was a punk last night! Today's been a little bit better. They are getting to know each other and playing better.

We'll see how the next couple days go. If they continue to bond it looks like the Metz's might have a new family member. Tentatively his name is Cash. Not sure on a middle name yet :)
