Amazing it is almost July!!
Technology never ceases to amaze me. As I sit at work programming today I'm listening live to CreationFest, a christian music festival in PA. I don't have to take time off work, travel, spend money.. yet I still get to listen to the same live music and speakers while I work. Very fun! I love the internet!
Believe it or not this is the 3rd friday in a row I've been in blacksburg! I couldn't tell you the last time the streak was that long.. or when it will be that long again! Hope to pick up the new bike today, maybe the weather will clear up and I'll get a chance to ride it this weekend! Other then that I plan to enjoy being in the burg and hanging out with friends this weekend!
Last night I met my challenge in shuffleboard. Talking trash as always M & I thoroughly got our butts whooped! I wasn't too mad, they were impressive on the table and fun. At least my D was good and it took them a while to shut us out, only scoring 1 or 2 points per go. We switched up teams and I did beat the guy on my end in the last game. Once scoring 7 on him in one round :) That felt good! M & I had a fun night as always :)

So I think I've figured out how to strike a balance in my crazy life and keep my sanity. It's easy... if I go out of town over the weekend, I have to say 'no' to some of the week's activities. If I stay in town for the weekend.. I can do whatever I want all week long :) I know I'll have the weekend to catch up :) Basically I need to make sure I have downtime somewhere! This weekend was great fun, cept there was no laundry, cleaning, mark things off to do list time... so I'm left feeling way behind in life! Hopefully I will be motivated to get some things done tonight! And hopefully I can work on the saying 'no' part... it's not my strength!
Random... I've come to the realization since I'm addicted to Virgin Radio I will know way more about UK current events then I do about US current events. This should scare me, but it really doesn't. It's never really bothered me that I lack current event knowledge. I'd like to be more in the loop... but not enough to actually make the effort.
Read this verse in my studies this weekend and it brought me comfort.
Psalm 139:16 All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. I don't have to wonder really, all my days have been planned and God is in control :) That makes me happy. All my dad's days were planned long ago. Might not be my plan.. but it's even better that it's His plan :)

...not much time. So this will be the quick version.
A. Cruise - lots of fun. a bunch of us took a 2 hour Ice Cream Social tour of Claytor Lake last night. So it rained the whole time, but that's ok. We are tough :) It was nice to relax on the lake, ice cream was yummy, the couple that owned the operation was very nice (they ran the 5K this weekend too, and they are running in VA Beach :)). Definitely a nice break from the normal TTC. We'll plan to do it again on a sunny day!
B. Morning - seems like by 9am lots had been accomplished. M and I hit a 3.2 mile run. Took a cold shower. M and I figured out how to relight the pilot light on the hot water heater. 'WE DON'T NEED NO STINKIN MEN' - that's our house motto :) Hit up starbucks.. at this point it was much needed! K came over and M made us breakfast. Yum Yum. Then it was off to work. Time check 8:30 :)
C. Bike - Been contiplating adding a bike to my list of toys. Will help with cross-training and I can work my way up to a real triathlon. After weighing options, checking out finances, and talking to mom... I've decided to go ahead and make the purchase. Very exciting.. more details to come! Hopefully the one I've been eyeing is still in the shop!
D. Virgin Radio - 'Today's Best Music and Classic Tracks' Beatles -- Guns N Roses -- REM -- Queen -- Evenecense (sp?) -- football commercials -- UK Lingo and Accents CAN'T BEAT IT :)
E. Company Picnic Today- WOOHOO!

Ultimate

Last night was the 'hat tournament' for the blacksburg summer league. Meaning everyone shows up and they randomly split us into teams. This gives the captain's a chance to watch everyone play. Following the 3 hours of ultimate was the official team draft! I'll admit I was a little intimidated about the league seeing as I have minimal experience. Last night was a ton of fun though, and I am really looking forward to improving my game this summer and having lots of fun! First thing I learned is the field we play on at work is not exactly regulation size... actually it's about half the size it should be. So my first run up and down the field just proved I'm not really in that good of shape. It'll be a great sprinting workout :) I also started learning the lingo. PULL - basically the kick off. It's just a throw.. but with a special name :) LAST MAN BACK - after a score.. if you don't hussle back to your line you'll be subbed out. HOLD THE LINE - when you are waiting to receive the pull.. don't move around so they can mark up by your number in line. FORCE - defense strategy.. basically force the player to throw a certain direction. STACK - offense strategy... you line up down the center of the field.. the start making cuts. There are many startegies to this game I have to learn! Then the types of throws.. backhand, forehand, hammer throw... those are the only names I know.. and I only have a backhand right now! M and I went to RiverMill afterwards to hang out with some of the people... it was fun! This will help our getting to know more people in the burg plan :) We also found out we were drafted onto the same team! I think I will be looking forward to every thursday night at 6 :) Everyone was super nice and they have a great attitude about teaching us newbies the ins and outs of the game. Their goal that everyone in the world becomes and ULTIMATE fanatic. They might have a chance with me :) Don't know what kept me away from the game for so long??
On a side note. M runs her first 5K in the AM :) She's going to rock it!

One Word....

...to describe me: SLACKER :) I need to work on more regular updates.. I think that's the only way I can keep an audience :) Whenever I think of good stuff to blog.. I'm driving.. makes things difficult since I'm not keen on the idea of audioblogging so you can listen to me blab on and on about stupid things :)
So... this goes back to saturday.. I tried Winsor Pilates for the first time. Definitely see where this could help strength my core.. even though I'm not so big on the whole yoga/pilates movement. Here's what confused me... why MS WINSOR (no clue her name) doesn't do any actual working out during the video. She just stands there telling us what to do! WRONG! I'm still looking into purchasing the whole deal though.. add it to my workouts ;) Along with me new Jump Rope video! I'm still waiting for this one to arrive. I'm super excited about it though. I'll let you know how things go. Rumor is jumping is good for shin splints! Let's hope so.
I think summer brings on an 'I want to be active' spirit in me. Or maybe sitting at a desk underground all day makes me want to get out when I get home or at least do something that gets the blood flowing. So I'm getting into lots of new stuff!! Running of course. Training has officially started for the VA Beach Rock N Roll Half Marathon :) I'm joining an Ultimate Frisbee Summer League being sponsored by the Ultimate Club at Tech. Games every thursday, should be a blast and hopefully I'll improve my skills a bit. Maybe even learn some new frisbee throws! The Pilates. The Jumping Rope. Bought some goggles so I can spend some time in the pool :) Annnndddd I've been eyeing bikes. Hope to look at a couple places this weekend and price things. I don't want to spend a fortune, but want something decent :) Even though I want to get into racing some triathlons.. I don't want to be restricted to road racing, so I'll prob end up with a Hybrid or Mtn Bike. How convenient of the latest Consumer Reports to do bit on bicycles :)
SOCCER.. we can't forget the best sport ever!! I've been trying to get a guy from work and some others to head to Charlotte with me to play in a 6v6 tournament. You'd think convincing a bunch of guys that love soccer to play in a tournament is easy... WRONG. Pain in the rear is what it is! They do not want to commit, they'd rather wait til the last minute. ERRRR :) I should know tomorrow if we have enough to play. I really hope so because I am SUPER excited about the tournament :)
Hmmm I don't only play sports :) M and I are doing a bible study with NLCF this summer. We are both really excited about it. It's a Beth Moore study called Believing God. I'll let you know what I learn as the study goes on :) Hopefully lots and lots :) Just finishing up Gift Wrapped by God with my HP group. If you are a girl (especially single.. but even if your married) this is an amazing book! I highly recommend it! If you are married.. give it as a present to a single friend! If I've given it to you... READ IT :) haha. Can you tell I like it!
Oh yeah.. Friday night. FLOYD! :) Let me know if you want to go :)

Virginia's New River Trail Challenge Triathlon
Bike 40 miles
Canoe 12 miles
Run 13.1 miles
All along the beautiful new river! Yeah I know.. lots of training and work :) Totally doable though. Not this year.. but 2005 I'm there! I'm really excited about it already :) It'll be fun. I guess I should start by looking into bikes :)

Live Like You Were Dyin'

Timmy's new song....
(lyrics by Craig Wiseman)
He said I was in my early 40's with a lot of life before me
And a moment came that stopped me on a dime
I spent most of the next days, looking at the X-rays
And talking 'bout the options, and talking 'bout sweet time
I asked him when it sank in that this might really be the real end
How's it hit cha when you get the kind of news
Man, what'd ya do ?
I went skydiving, I went rocky mountain climbing
I went 2.7 seconds on a bull named Fu Man Chu
And I loved deeper and I spoke sweeter
And I gave forgiveness I'd been denying
And he said someday I hope you get the chance
To live like you were dyin'
He said I was finally the husband that most of the time I wasn't
And I became a friend a friend would like to have
And all of a sudden goin' fishin wasn't such an imposition
And I went 3 times that year I lost my dad
Well I, I finally read the good book
And I took a good long hard look
At what I'd do if I could do it all again
And then...
I went skydiving, I went rocky mountain climbing
I went 2.7 seconds on a bull named Fu Man Chu
And I loved deeper and I spoke sweeter
And I gave forgiveness I'd been denying
And he said someday I hope you get the chance
To live like you were dyin'
Like tomorrow was a gift
And you got eternity to think about what you do with it
What should you do with it
What can I do with it
What would I do with it
I went skydiving, I went rocky mountain climbing
I went 2.7 seconds on a bull named Fu Man Chu
And I loved deeper and I spoke sweeter
And I gave forgiveness I'd been denying
And he said someday I hope you get the chance
To live like you were dyin'
(don't know if these are exact.. but they are close)

So two nights ago I actually wake up and hear the crazy storm we had. Sounded like a train was rollin by my window. Kinda surprised me because a storm has never woken me before. But wasn't too bothered considering I was only awake long enough to register it was raining and that loud sound was actually thunder.. then I was out again.
Then last night... I wake up to the yap yap yap of a dog. At first I think A who lives in the apt on our house must be in town for a visit and it's her dog.. though I've never heard her dog bark before. Then I realize it's coming from across the street.. or next door.. wherever.. it was outside. I like at the clock 1:30am! :( I have never heard a dog barking on our street before!! So I assume the dog was spooked and will stop anytime.. I am definitely too lazy to get out bed and shut my windows. About 15 minutes later I actually tried covering my head with my pillow to see if that will help block out the sound. Remember this isn't barking.. it's yelping! Then it stopped. Thank goodness! Then it started again. ERRR! At some point another dog started barking with him. I 'almost' laughed. Thoughts were going through my mind on how I could shut this dog up.. and they weren't nice thoughts :) Those of you who have made the mistake of calling me when I'm sleeping know I'm not very nice when I get woken up! So I keep watching the clock knowing I have to get up at 4:30. I think I got a few winks in. I did notice the whole time I was getting ready.. no barking! It did start again before I left the house though. I wonder if this is one a one time deal??
The moral of this story. That's two nights in a row I have been woken up by noises... something that has never happened in the past. I'M GETTING OLD!!! Or just continuing to metamorphosize (is that a word?) into my mom :)
