....FUN :) So Charley dumped some rain on us, but the weekend was filled with family, running, shopping, yummy food, frisbee on the beach, lighthouses, driving on the beach, funny stories amd good memories :) I only wish it had lasted longer. Back to the beach this weekend for more of the same :) Prob a few more crazy stories :)
Amazing how time flies!! The half marathon is just around the corner, only two more longs runs until the race! Very exciting! Running on the Ocean City Boardwalk should provide enough entertainment to pass the hour and forty minutes painlessly this weekend :) We've ordered our race shirts :) Our friend at work is going to kindly Tie Dye them hokie colors for us. So we are geeks.. it will be fun! Now coming up with the best way to attach our names so people can cheer for us is the last step :) I'm super ready for labor day weekend at the beach with good friends, lots of live music, and running :)

I thought for sure I'd have some good blog material after chasing around the little white ball tuesday night.. not really though. Didn't hit any houses this week, so I guess that's an improvement. It wasn't til the 4th hole that I figured out what was off in my swing, so I played the last 3 holes way better then the first three. I figured out why we can only get through 5/6 holes before it gets dark. Since we don't really have the hitting the ball straight thing down, even though the balls aren't in the water or the woods, it takes forever to find the darn thing!! Someone needs to invent golf balls that beep or something so you can find them faster :)
The one cool story. Hole one. We all tee off. ~ M and I leave head to the Outer Banks tomorrow to spend the weekend at the beach with my family. It's an extended family trip, actually we are just taggin along with my Cousins and Great Aunts, so it should be fun. Time with my cousins has been too few and far between the past couple years, so I'm really looking forward to hanging out with them. B will be going into her senior year in HS (from what I hear her beau will be on the trip too) and her lil sis M will be a freshman :)
~ The new roomie will be moved in when we get back from the beach. Exciting :) I have yet to meet her, I left the 'approval' up to M. So now if we have any issues it's on M's fault :) JK!

~ Opening Ceremonies are tomorrow! When I lived at home we always watched a lot of the olympic games, since I've been on my own it seems I've been too busy or just forget they are even on. I hope to watch more of the games this year. I really enjoy them and love the personal stories they share :)

The weather this weekend definitely felt like fall! I wore my long sleeve under armour shirt every morning for biking and running it was so cool! Around 50 degrees! Ah blacksburg :) Today we are back to summer!
Mom was in town with a friend this weekend. We tried out a new restaurant for dinner thursday night. Lefty's Grill (not sure on exact name). Quite a variety with some originals and some crazy twists. I recommend ya'll check it out! My sandwoch was served on french bread, with a blue cheese ish sauce, ham, asparagus, walnuts, not sure what else.. but that's an example. We also had potato crisps topped with a cilantro lime salsa. I like the place.
Friday we headed down to Wytheville, took my bike in for the 2 month tune up. We putzed around and found a couple nice places including a great quilt shop! Had no clue it was there. Now I know where to go when I'm looking for fabric, not that I will be finishing the current quilt any time soon. I found a great rayon batik I'm going to attempt to make into a beach wrap/sarong. Friday night we hit Floyd of course :) M's family was in town from MO and FL, R was there with his family, I ran into an old friend from college.. the place was more packed then I had ever seen it! The oldtime (I think that's what it's called) band was amazing. It was a great Floyd night! Quote from Rob's 7 year olds "Can we move to Floyd?"
Saturday we spent a couple hours walking around downtown blacksburg checking out Steppin Out. It's my favorite festival blacksburg puts on.. well except for TECH FOOTBALL that is :) haha. I'm getting kinda of sick of photography, pottery, and jewelry at craft shows.. but I thought they had a good variety of vendors this year. We spent the rest of the day relaxing and watching HGTV.. surprise surprise when mom has control of the remote. Really though once you watch 5 min of a home improvement/makeover show you are sucked in and have to see the final result! So if you want to get out of the coma you have to be ready to switch the channel or turn off the TV as soon as a show ends!

So BURTON released their 2005 catalog/website last saturday. I've been craving a pair of pink (dark pink.. not bright) snowboarding pants and have been awaiting the new line all summer. Much to my disappointment they offer one style of pants in TALL and they only come in BLACK! How boring!! I'm pretty bummed! I even sent them a 'you stink' email :) WHY WHY WHY can't companies start making cool stuff for those of us with long legs? I'm losing hope I will ever find a pair of pink pants that fit me :( Which makes me really sad! Oh well.. I guess it is still exciting companies are coming out with their 2005 line of junk. First stop is new boots anyways.. not new pants :)

Semi-Final: Thunder Monkey's vs Red Rover
Thunder Monkey's are in the lead 8:5, hard cap is on, game point - we score and we're on our way to meet the Hillbilly Biatches in the championship game! Red Rover has the disc. Turnover. Omar picks up the disc about 1/3 of the field away from our endzone. I'm close to the endzone and look around wondering what my move is going to be. (Usually on offense I'm trying to figure out how to stay out of everyone else's way and maybe find a decent cut) I make eye contact with Omar and he gives me a yeah.. go ahead nod :) Uh oh.. that means endzone! So I take off deep.. then cut to the sideline. Disc is in the air... curving around towards me. I'm running.. I hear Brian hot on my heals.. oh no! I better go after this one. So I leap. (yes feet actually leave the ground.. unlike my normal style of waiting for the disc) Brian dives across trying to block the disc. TOO LATE! I come down with disc in hand!! WOOHOO!!! WE WON WE WON!! And I actually helped! Definitely the highlight of my Ultimate career thus far! If you know me at all.. you know I was super excited... still am!! One of the girls on my team said it was like slow motion watching it. Disc in the air.. both of us going for it! She said Brian's hands were inches from mine.. and if I hadn't jumped for it he would have blocked it :) :) :)

Not really much to say. We got stomped! Apparently we forgot how to catch and throw.. which is important. NOTHING was coming together for us and the HB could do no wrong, they were catching everything. They played an awesome game.. Rex had some amazing endzone catches. It was disappointing that the final was between the two best teams, and it wasn't the fun close game it should have been. I'd rather lose and be playing our game.. then not even show up to play. Oh well.. just got to remember back to how much fun we had playing the rest of the season :) Did I mention my game winning catch in the first game :)
Pool Party: Shawnee Swim Club
So the end of the season party was held at a local pool. We had a blast being kids, making up games to play involving a disc and the diving boards, pool volleyball, food! They also presented the season awards. M and I both got most improved for our teams. Just goes to show how much we really stunk at the beginning of the season. I think it helped me that everyone thought I was slow when my knee was bum and I shouldn't have been playing anyways!! Rex was rewarded with Tournament MVP for his team last night after his spectacular show of endzone grabs! The cool part is we all got new discs! It was kinda sad at the end to say goodbye to all the new friends we've made, not really knowing when we'd hang out again. The whole league was a blast!!

April 23 - Pre Race Expo - Order a mosaic poster commemorating the Country Music Half Marathon that will include at least one photo of me during the race :)
April 24 - run run run :)
April 28 - Receive email confirmation of order which states "Posters, photo mats, and medal stands ship out in 3-4 business weeks." Cool.
June 30 - hmmm I haven't gotten that poster yet.. what did that email say? 3-4 weeks? It's been 9... so I send an email to the support folks inquiring.
July 14 - hmmm.. haven't gotten and email back. I'll call them. This is at 11 weeks. Woman says it was shipped July 5th USPS, if I don't get it by July 19th call back. (since when does it take 2 weeks to ship something USPS?) Ok... this company is slow.. but it's in the mail.. I can deal.
July 27 - 10 AM - still no poster. What is up?? So I call back and end up talking to a really nice rep. She does some research. Apparently something happened at the event.. and this item wasn't able to be produced.. so no one can get it. Umm ok.. why didn't you call me and tell me?? why did the last chic say it was shipped?? She offers to send me a couple of my pics in place of the poster.. Cool with me, I order 3 pics which equals more then what the poster was. Here is where they are trying to make me a happy customer even though they really messed up :)
July 27 - 1PM - M calls. Your poster came in the mail. What? My poster? The one they couldn't produce? Very interesting. Sure enough.. I go home and there is my poster :) 13 weeks later!

BLUD. Nothing to do with the body fluid. Found out this weekend it stands for Big Lick Ultimate Disc. Thought since I talked so much about the Blacksburg Mountain High Tournament I should let ya'll know how it went. Honestly.. I was really not looking forward to playing all day sat.. but I committed.. so I was there at 8:30AM :) I'm really glad M and I played. Though our team was definitely not the best.. ok maybe the worst... we have a blast. I had no clue how good some of the teams would be! It was great to watch and learn! And learn we did, I'd have to say that was the best Ultimate either of us have played. We won one of the 6 games we played... a couple were blow-outs, a couple we could have easily won with a little more of the luck on our side. Matt gave me 'layout' lessons starting from stage one (on your knees) through stage ?? (on your feet diving for the disc). I have yet to use my new skills in a game.. maybe this thursday :) Picked up some new terminology too... SAVAGE - playing with no subs. Also learned they don't use the 'F' word :) haha I am no worse for the wear.. cept for a couple rolled ankles. Ankle braces are on order :)

A 15-7 (i think) victory over Red Rover clinched the 'regular season champions' title for the THUNDER MONKEYS :) Next thursday night we will win the end of the season tournament :) Then there will be no doubt who the best team is :)
Last night's game was actually really fun. I was the only girl for my team, so I got to play all night. I felt a huge improvement in my game. Maybe not that I played that much better, but I felt more comfortable and not so scared when I got the disc, my throws were on target too.. and not always dumps :) I was making decent offensive cuts which meant I was seeing more of the disc... I still need to work on this though. My team is also very encouraging which is nice. They're always saying 'good d' which just makes me want to keep playing hard :) Especially when I'm marking the frisbee god in a zone d... and can barely breathe I'm so worn out :) I'm really glad R talked M and I into playing, we've had tons of fun, learned lots, and met some great new people :)
#1 lesson learned. Ultimate Players are INSANE. Life revolves around Ultimate! They are laid back yet very intense. M and I got talked into playing in the Blacksburg Mountain High tournament this weekend. Sounds like fun, get in a couple games over two days. Oh. no no no, not just a couple games. I just found out the schedule. Sat.. we start at 9am and play 5 hour and half games with 15 minute breaks inbetween. Meaning games will end at 5:30. I told you they are insane! Sat night is some big party.. then we get to play a couple more games on sunday. Should be a very interesting :) Fun and TIRING. This may be my first and last Ultimate tournament :)
