So far LA has been a blast. In typical H/J style last night we had a dye party. Usually this is me dying her hair, but last night... we switched things up a bit. I've always wanted brown hair.. for a day. Which I know just isn't possible. But curiosity got the best of me.

New River Trail Challenge

It's official, application is in the mail, I'm really am doing this! Yes I may be slightly crazy, but I'm really looking forward to competing in my first triathlon in just over 5 weeks. 40M biking, 12M canoeing, and 13.1M running.
Maybe I shouldn't say competeing, participating is a better word. I'm not going to be passing anyone, or winning any awards, but as long as I cross the finish line I'll be happy!
I can't say my training has been stellar, but it's been pretty steady. My runs are only 5 and 6 miles, but they are happening. Hopefully I'll get in some 8-10 mile runs in the next 5 weeks! Biking has been really fun, but it's hard to find the time to get in long rides, hopefully the hills around here are making up for what I'm lacking in distance. I've gotten in some 30M rides, but hope to complete a 50 or 60M ride before race day. I'm crossing my fingers my lifting routine which includes a ton of rows, back, and shoulder work will pay off during the canoe portion!
And the best part is I'll be sharing this adventure with a couple friends. We might not see each other during the race, but I'll know they are out there racing just as hard, and that'll keep me motivated! I can't wait til race day!!

The world of a homeowner....

If you looked at a pie chart of how I spend my time... aside from working and sleeping I think the largest slice would be 'shopping at Lowe's, Home Depot, or Heavener's'. I'm not complaining, I love hardware stores and building/making/problem solving at my house! (notice I didn't mention I loved painting!)
After realizing my lawn was a beast, getting a lowdown on all the options mowers offer, and checking out consumer reports I bought myself a new mower the other weekend. The TORO Recycler 20017 Personal Pace. I'm lovin it! Used it for the first time on sunday and oh what a difference. I think I might have even enjoyed mowing! Now what to do with my old push mower??
I had so much fun mowing that afterwards I cut back some of the plants, hung hooks across the porch for hanging plants and organized the garage :) I have a feeling this will become a normal sunday for me :)

Things not to say on a first date...

So this happened a while ago, but it came up in conversaton last night and I thought it would make a great blog. This is just the start of the list, it's one I'd hope doesn't grow too long, but I'm sure it might... maybe you guys have some things to add...
1 - An innocent conversation about work turned into me finding out he covers for a coworker so the guy can have an affair. excuse me? Yes he doesn't approve of it, but that doesn't stop him from enabling a buddy to be unfaithful. RED FLAG! And I'm still in shock he told me! (sorry I don't have an exact quote)

Changes in the burg!

Hokies who have left town are always asking me for blacksburg updates... usually I can't think of much, but this summer lots has been happening...
1 - A STOP LIGHT ON CAMPUS!!! Yep, at the corner of the stadium and south rec fields. Kinda sad I think.
2 - ROUNDABOUT - yeah they'll be one of those on campus too. Right in front of the gym. Scary!
3 - Woody's is no longer. Sharkey's moved into the Woody's space and is now advertised as a wing & rib place. No longer a secret their ribs rock. I heard a rumor we might be getting an irish pub in the old Sharkey's.... we can dream can't we :)
4 - Cabo Fish Taco - Finally a restaurant with a twist. Great magaritas, different menu, and fun atmosphere. (In the building previously known as South Main Cafe or Baileys)
5 - Pretty soon we won't recognize where the math emporium and volume two are. They've torn down the bank on the corner. I've heard stories of a retail/residential building in it's place, similar to Kent Square. I've also heard that mall is soon to become two stories with many more restaurants to support the new conference center. We'll see.

My weekend

First weekend in August means Steppin Out in Blacksburg. I love hanging out in a town I love with people I love listening to great music and shopping! Hope to see you there!!
Added bonus my s-i-l C will be in town all weekend and my grandpa will be visiting some also! Hopefully I'll be able spend lots of time with them as well as relax, get in a ride and a run, and mow the lawn!! (NO PAINTING!)
I'm also really looking forward to this time next week when I'll be packing my bags and heading to the west coast for a week!! LA here I come :) Can't wait to see ya H!

So I've been blogging maybe two years now. For me it's obviously nothing too insiteful, more an online journal to share stories and keep friends up to date on my life. In the past 6 months my view of what blogging is all about and the impact it's having around the world has been growing. This week I've been doing some research on company blogs. ID is going to be starting a blog and we're trying to figure out what we want to include and how this blog can benefit the company. The more I read and learn about blogs the more I realize what an explosion it is... seems blogging is everywhere now!

The more blogs I discover the interest me the harder it is to check them everyday. I really you could let it take over you life! Thanks goodness I've had a friend point me the direction of RSS. I can subscribe to the RSS feeds of the blogs I'd like to read and new posts are sent to my mail application (or RSS reader of your choice). Now I don't really have to do any work... I can catch up on blogs as they are posted :)

So I may skip the whole catch up thing.... you'll just have to live not knowing what I've been up to the past 2 weeks :)
But I will say a couple things about my trip to High Point last week for work.
3 things I love about NC:
1 - BAR B QUE :)
2 - Cheerwine from a fountain :)
3 - Country Bars :)
(yes I did have Bar B Que for lunch and dinner one day!)
Training itself went really well. I'm one of those rare people who love dealing with the customers. I love talking to them, learning how they use our software, getting feedback from them, teaching them etc. My boss always says I'm the #1 proponent for what the customer wants, which a lot of developers unfortunately don't care about. The more I talk to the customers the better I understand the software, since I came into this project in the middle and don't have the background furniture knowledge others on our team do - every little bit I learn helps!
But I will say a couple things about my trip to High Point last week for work.
