GO San Diego Card

With 2 weeks until we leave for San Diego I decided to start researching area attractions today. Ended up deciding to purchase a GO Card. We'll have unlimited Admission at over 45 San Diego Attractions and Tours. Hopefully it'll provide us with a variety of things to do and motivate us not to waste any time :)

LEGOland
San Diego ZOO
Belmont Park
Rock Bottom Brewery Tour
Birch Aquarium
Kayak the 7 caves of La Jolla
IMAX - WIRED TO WIN: Surviving the Tour de France
San Diego Harbor Excursion

Just to name a few! I can't wait!!!

running running running - running wild - out of control

I wish I could remember more of the lyrics, they are appropriate. It's a song I hear all the time when I attend my mom's barbershop competitions....

Anyways - yep I'm still running. Managed to get in two runs at the beach. A 14 miler and a 5. I gave myself a real vacation day and skipped the 10! Tues R and J were kinda enough to slow down some and run the big 20 miler with me. It started out ok, but I was feeling exhausted around 6. It really hit me around 12. At 15 I didn't think I'd be able to take another step. Thanks to their smiles and encouragement I somehow made it to the end of the trail only walking up two hills. The total mileage was 19.25 - which I was quite ok with considering I really wanted to cry at some points!!! It's over now :) Some runs go well some don't. I'm still looking forward to San Diego and am positive it'll be a good experience!!!

According to my training plan I have 50 miles left to run before I leave for CA. Sounds like a lot but it won't be bad. 8/12/4/3/6/8/4/3/2 After this weekend it'll seem like a breeze - I hope!!! Ok off to the gym to get that first 8 out of the way!

Workforce Development Committee

Being involved in Leadership NRV had educated me on the local Chamber of Commerce and peaked my interest in getting more involved with the town. When I received an invitation from a friend to join a new Chamber Committee it seemed the perfect fit.

Here's a blurb from the invite: "Basically the purpose of the committee is to explore what factors are needed in our community to retain and develop a talented and skilled workforce. We’ll be looking at what is lacking, what is here, what needs improvement, what types of programs could be implemented in what arenas, etc. to this end. As you know, VA Tech is pouring out bright young professionals every year and few of them have any intention to stay in the NRV. Why? Many professionals who do want to stay are frustrated at the comparably low local pay for their fields. Some of you may even be planning yourself to move on. Why? This is what we’re hoping to find out, so I’m asking for your input by seeing if you would be interested in joining the committee."

We had the first meeting this week. I'm excited to see what ideas we can brainstorm and implement to improve the 'appeal' of living and working in Montgomery County!

Let me know if you have any imput I can take to the committee meetings!

What European city do you belong in?

You Belong in Dublin

Friendly and down to earth, you want to enjoy Europe without snobbery or pretensions.
You're the perfect person to go wild on a pub crawl... or enjoy a quiet bike ride through the old part of town.

Ironic - Had a conversation this morning with V that they only way I *might* be talked into signing up for another marathon is if it were in Dublin. I'm pretty sure guinness and golfing are good enough reasons to travel to Ireland though - I can skip the running :)

Take the quiz.

Happy 7th Birthday ID!!

Wooohooo!!!

This year's Country Music Marathon was awesome!!! Congrats to all who crossed the finish line!

I keep telling people this race course is flat. A couple hills, but none you remember. Well when I actually pay attention during the race - I realize there's not much of it that is flat, you're either going up or down. I've decided to stop telling people it's flat. I think hills look different when they're street width and covered with people - they don't seem as steep as when you're the only one on a single trail.

Velvet and I started out together. Around mile 5 I looked at my watch and the conversation went something like this. "Velvet - we just ran 2 9:20 miles, we're going to fast" -- "No we aren't, just push yourself" (snickers from fellow racers) and off she went. I knew that pace was too much too early - so was ok slowing down a bit and sticking to my gameplan.

Before the race I was aiming for 2:10 and hoping for 2:05. I'm still in shock that I came in at 2:04:53!! Guess that 6am speed training paid off!! Helped me shave over 6 minutes off my PB :) Pace 9:32!!

Quite an improvement over AZ. Bring on the marathon!

On my way to being a ROCK STAR.

Challenge 2: April 29th CM1/2M

Heading to Nashville by way of Knoxville in about 20 min. Pretty sure the reason I run this race every year is to gaurantee a trip to Nashville - and to gaurantee I can convince some friends to come with me!!

Tonight is the traditional stop off in Knoxville so we can line dance at Cotton Eyed Joe's!! I have my boots on and am ready to go!!

I'm excited we have 4 folks who will be competing in their first half marathon!!

By Sat afternoon I hope to be 2/5's of the way to being a ROCK STAR!!

BOA for running shoes???

The BOA Revolution

I'm a HUGE fan of my BOA lacing snowboard boots - really I should be getting commission for how much I talk the things up!

Only down side now is there's only one shoe model on the market - we all know how many different pairs of running shoes you have to try on to find 'the one'. It'll take a while before we have options - but if I find one that works, better believe it'll replace my Adreneline's!

News for the snowboarding world.... "Next year Boa is releasing a new snowboard boot closure called the Focus that uses two reels to tighten different zones around your foot instead of just one. You’ll be able to dial in tightness to lock in the heel and arch with one cable while the other tightens around your ankle and calf." Cool!

Easter

I had a great time with the family Easter weekend, thanks to them for making the trip to the burg!!

Mom and I headed out to Wind Rock Thurs night for a picnic dinner and to watch the sunset. It was a great evening for it - warm(ish) and clear.

Sat afternoon we went bowling - Mom's still got it - Josh bowled an amazing 191 including 2 turkeys! - C & I, well we improved with M's pointers :) I changed my form, so now I need to go practice it!

The blooming trees provided a great back drop for the obligatory 'tri-pod' family photos Sunday morning :) Plus Mom got some great shots with her camera of 'spring'.

Oh yeah. I ran 15 miles :)

Ketchup

Yep - it's that time. No excuses - I'm just a slacker :)

Since I'm getting kinda bored of looking at Joel's same posts in route to read Mandy's blog, I've added her to my links. I'd describe it as the blog version of Kid's Say the Darndest Things. Great entertainment, you should read it!
