I guess that's me, but really it sounds like my dad :) Yep I volunteered to coach a kids basketball team this winter. I heard the Upwards League was short coaches through my boss and decided why not. I've always wanted to coach... just need to get over my fear of actually doing it!! So tonight is the first practice. I'll be teaching 8 3rd/4th grade boys some basketball skills - and according to the coaches guide I'll also be 'looking for ways to instill confidence, boost self-esteem, and share Christ with the players.' I am pretty excited.. but also nervous! I've talked J into being my assistant! We'll keep you updated on our team. GO HEAT!
In other basketball news, when I left the gym this morning, the 'sometimes annoying' disc jockey on my country station was going on and on about giving away a ridculous number of Roanoke Dazzle tickets friday night. Then he said something about having to be single. (Apparently their promotion tomorrow night is singles night, they have some reception before the game) They were giving away tickets to the next 10 tickets. Well shoot, I qualify.... so I called and I was one of the 10 callers. Now I wonder why I called, I mean the game might be fun, but my partner in crime is currently in Nebraska. It was fun to win something though ;) If anyone is interested in going let me know, otherwise I'm sticking to my original plan of being a bum :)

As December arrives most folks are getting ready for the holidays... I get excited for a whole nother reason... the beginning of December means it's RODEO time!!
Most Hokies are wishing they had flights to Jacksonville this weekend, I wish I was flying to Vegas! Cowboys, Rodeo, Cowboy Christmas (big shopping thing), and all the country concerts (inlcuding GARY!) in a week you could dream of! One of these years I will make the trip!
I don't follow rodeo all year long, pretty much cause I have too much going on to follow any sports. But the NFR is exciting - and it's only a 10 day commitment :) A couple years ago I randomly caught a round on TV and have been addicted ever since. The top 15 competitors in each of the 7 rodeo events are invited to compete at the Thomas and Mack Center. The purses are higher in Vegas, every nights winnings go towards deciding who will win the Championship Belt Buckles! My favorite events are Tie-Down Roping and Steer Wrestling :)
TV coverage starts Friday night at midnight! You can keep up with what's happening at 10 Days in the Dirt.

Let's start this story Friday night. M and I talked to a couple guys at Rivermill (guy 1 and guy 2 for the sake of the story). I talked to guy 1 for quite a while, cute - really nice - fun, so when he asked for my number I gave it to him. Texted him and talked to him on Monday night, planned dinner for Thurs. Texted and email him on Thurs for further details.
A answered the door last night.. I came downstairs.. and much to my surprise it was guy 2... I totally called him out on it. "You're guy 2, not guy 1 - are you playing a trick on me?". He totally denied it. I was still totally confused and said "Do you guys look that much alike?" (I didn't remember them looking anything alike!) His answer.. "I guess so". A gave me this look like "J, what are you saying!" So then I felt started feeling bad and maybe I really didn't remember him.. but I saw nothing of guy 1 in this guy. So whatever... now on top of what were nerves.. I felt really bad.
So I went along to dinner and bowling... pretending everything was ok. The whole time trying to see any of the guy I remember in this guy. It's not like they were twins and could possibly pull off a trade! They look nothing alike, diff height, diff hair color, diff features, diff accents, diff personalities. So the more the night went on, the more I was convinced I was out on date with guy 2 pretending to by guy 1. Did they think I wouldn't realize it??? So basically guy 2 just sat there and lied to me all night long!!
He drops me off... I go straight to A's room and say "I don't care if I was rude - that was not guy 1, it was guy 2!" M was the only other person who'd hung out with them on Friday night so I called her to verify what I remembered. She backed me up! So we sat around calling them jerks and trying to figure out what the hell happened... did they tell us the opposite names Friday night? Was guy 2 the one that wanted to go out with me? Are they just obnoxious jerks? Who did I communicate with earlier in the week?
Then my phone rings... Guy 1 (or 2 - who knows at this point). I answer it skeptically. Toally has the accent, this is guy 1, he invites me to the Rivermill. I'm so confused and ask "So what have you been up to all night". Answer "I was on campus til 8:30". Bingo! I was right. WHAT THE CRAP! So not only was it not him I was out with, he's not eveing pretending it was. And why is he now inviting me to hang out with him and guy 2 who's there with him? So I tell him I just went out to dinner with guy 2, what's up with that. At first he acted surprised... then he was like "Well was it fun?" (which is my clue to the fact he was in out it, if he wasn't he should have been pissed) I answered "Besides the fact I was lied to all night?!" Then he was all apologetic and I'm sorry, and I'm confused to, I don't know what's going on, No I haven't talked to you all week he musta used my phone. "And your email?" I ask. He said I still want to hang out with you. Whatever! My next question was "So why didn't you call me earlier in the week if you wanted to hang out with me?" He tried to blame it on being busy and school. Yeah I just told him goodnight and hung up!
Who knows their plan or why... but it's wierd!!! I'm just glad I called him out from the very beginning!! Not sure what they thought they were pulling off, but it didn't work. My only regret, I didn't kick his butt in bowling and air hockey!

B - I was mentioned yesterday in a Roanoke Times article saying:
There are a lot of people with profiles that are fake, says Jilian Fath, who has been meeting people online since high school. One person she went out with described himself as moral — then she found out he was enabling his best friend to cheat on his wife.
The biggest turn-offs are guys who lie and put up phony pictures. You find out by e-mailing them for a while. Plus, you can always check their facts — like where they went to school or where they work. That's the power of the Internet.
I guess this is another crazy/funny story to add my book of life. And you wonder why I'm not very fond of dating!

Training and Turkeys

I finally sat down and laid out guidelines for my training schedule. Just over 8 weeks until the PF Chang's Rock 'n' Roll AZ! I've been running some, so I'm not totally behind. I've gotten less strict with my training plans the more races I've done. Right now I've set the distance for my long runs and then penciled in the mileage for additional runs each week. Still hoping to keep lifting 2-3 days, maybe fit in some cardio, pick up the pace on the shorter runs, and add some interval training to hopefully improve my time.
Some days the runs are miserable... other days I feel like the bionic woman. On 5 hrs of sleep, at 6am today... I felt invinsible. My normal pace is a 10 min mile. On the treadmill it helps me pass time to change the speed every minute or so.. bump it up, slow down, add grade. After running the first mile in 10mins I started bumping it up... ran for over 13 min at a 9 min pace. It felt great!!! So I finished 3.2 miles in 30min. What makes a difference on the good days?? Usually I'm in the dark.. but today I have an answer....
It was the turkey!! I'm not a huge fan of turkey, I'll always choose ham over it. Well that is unless Curt's frying up a Cajun Spice injected Turkey :) We had a full thanksgiving dinner last night at our place with our bible study group. Curt's been in trouble since last Thanksgiving for not providing a deep fried bird... he made up for it last night though. So amazing... juicy, tastety, melt in your mouth turkey!! I skipped the homemade pumpkin pie for a couple more bites of turkey. Mmmm... thanksgiving will never be the same!! (I did have a slice of pie for breakfast though!) The Feast, a Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, and Pictionary made for a great evening with friends!!

My GL from Theta came down to visit for the weekend. I hadn't seen since her wedding over a year ago... so it was way overdo and great to hang out. We took her cousin to Cabo for dinner, she's a freshman and had yet to eat anywhere but the dining halls!! I've now made it my mission to keep her updated on things she must see/do in the burg.. . especially since she may be transfering next year! Floyd.. her we come!
After dinner started a great girls night on the town. All BH residents and the Radford extension were present, plus K :) First stop was Boudreaux's to help our favorite South African celebrate defending his thesis, then onto to Rivermill for darts and car racing, finally we stopped by Sharkeys to see M and his posse. FYI - Monica wins for best 'wingman' ever :)
Saturday:
Slept in, made a big breakfast, cleaned some, went to the craft fair. A good balance of relaxing, working, and fun. Then K and I headed to Lynchburg for the concert. We stayed with my friend M. He took us to Neighbors for dinner. If you're even in Lynchburg and want a nice dinner that's the place to go. M even chauffeured us to the concert, I felt like a diva :) Joe was great. I think I like his sound better live then on his CD's. He has 3 albums out so I was surprised by how many covers he sang. He choose great songs... but I wish he'd played more original music. He hammed it up for the crowd and put on a fun show! I'm glad I finally had a chance to see him live. Then M picked us up and we headed to a restaurant bar. We were expecting hippies and grateful dead music, but it was R&B grind music. Not a typical dance club with hip hop and pop music, but slower R&B/Rap that really all you can do was grind to, and even M had never heard any of the songs. Oh yeah... and I think just about everyone in there was smoking. So we stood in an ashtray and people watched for a while. Finally I had to get out and breathe fresh air!!!
Sunday:
We had Cracker Barrell for breakfast before K headed one way and I headed back to the burg. I dug in my flower beds for about 3 hours. I think I've finally gotten cleared out all I'm going to get cleared out this year. Now I just have to finish planting bulbs before the ground freezes. I've really enjoyed the gardening.. just wish I had a lot more time to do it!!! M and I went to visit a friend of mine in Radford and give him decorating advice before heading to church.
We were sitting in church during communion listening to music... when all the sudden a sleeping bundle in a striped green terrycloth sleeper appears in my lap. Smelling so sweetly of baby!! It made my night and was a perfect ending to the weekend!! I don't think I'll ever get enough Malayna time!!

I finally did it. I bought my first 'album' off iTunes. Yeah I know.. get with the times. I've bought a song here and there.. but haven't been able to give up buying the real deal with the CD jacket and all. I'm still not ready to... but I haven't fit Wal*Mart into my schedule this week and I want to hear the new album before I see Joe Nichols (mmmm.. he's hot!) in concert on Sat night.
The jury's still out on whether this is a fluke or will become commonplace. I'm sure if I had an IPOD there wouldn't be so much hesitation. Which may happen sooner rather then later considering my new gym stinks and I can't just plug my headphones into the TV, I have to have my own radio!
iTunes just makes it too easy... before I know it I'll be spending $100's a week on music... that would be bad for the budget!

I might buy a Kelly Clarkson CD. I never really liked her because of all the American Idol hoopla... but whenever I listen to SIRIUS Hits #1 her songs catch my attention. I really like her voice and the lyrics are pretty good too.
My favorite random fun song right now is Akon - Belly Dancer. "Don't be shy girl - go Banaza - Shake ya body like a belly dancer" It's got a great beat :)
