Summer Ultimate League Tournament Rundown

Semi-Final: Thunder Monkey's vs Red Rover
Thunder Monkey's are in the lead 8:5, hard cap is on, game point - we score and we're on our way to meet the Hillbilly Biatches in the championship game! Red Rover has the disc. Turnover. Omar picks up the disc about 1/3 of the field away from our endzone. I'm close to the endzone and look around wondering what my move is going to be. (Usually on offense I'm trying to figure out how to stay out of everyone else's way and maybe find a decent cut) I make eye contact with Omar and he gives me a yeah.. go ahead nod :) Uh oh.. that means endzone! So I take off deep.. then cut to the sideline. Disc is in the air... curving around towards me. I'm running.. I hear Brian hot on my heals.. oh no! I better go after this one. So I leap. (yes feet actually leave the ground.. unlike my normal style of waiting for the disc) Brian dives across trying to block the disc. TOO LATE! I come down with disc in hand!! WOOHOO!!! WE WON WE WON!! And I actually helped! Definitely the highlight of my Ultimate career thus far! If you know me at all.. you know I was super excited... still am!! One of the girls on my team said it was like slow motion watching it. Disc in the air.. both of us going for it! She said Brian's hands were inches from mine.. and if I hadn't jumped for it he would have blocked it :) :) :)

Not really much to say. We got stomped! Apparently we forgot how to catch and throw.. which is important. NOTHING was coming together for us and the HB could do no wrong, they were catching everything. They played an awesome game.. Rex had some amazing endzone catches. It was disappointing that the final was between the two best teams, and it wasn't the fun close game it should have been. I'd rather lose and be playing our game.. then not even show up to play. Oh well.. just got to remember back to how much fun we had playing the rest of the season :) Did I mention my game winning catch in the first game :)

Pool Party: Shawnee Swim Club
So the end of the season party was held at a local pool. We had a blast being kids, making up games to play involving a disc and the diving boards, pool volleyball, food! They also presented the season awards. M and I both got most improved for our teams. Just goes to show how much we really stunk at the beginning of the season. I think it helped me that everyone thought I was slow when my knee was bum and I shouldn't have been playing anyways!! Rex was rewarded with Tournament MVP for his team last night after his spectacular show of endzone grabs! The cool part is we all got new discs! It was kinda sad at the end to say goodbye to all the new friends we've made, not really knowing when we'd hang out again. The whole league was a blast!!

April 23 - Pre Race Expo - Order a mosaic poster commemorating the Country Music Half Marathon that will include at least one photo of me during the race :)

April 24 - run run run :)

April 28 - Receive email confirmation of order which states "Posters, photo mats, and medal stands ship out in 3-4 business weeks." Cool.

June 30 - hmmm I haven't gotten that poster yet.. what did that email say? 3-4 weeks? It's been 9... so I send an email to the support folks inquiring.

July 14 - hmmm.. haven't gotten and email back. I'll call them. This is at 11 weeks. Woman says it was shipped July 5th USPS, if I don't get it by July 19th call back. (since when does it take 2 weeks to ship something USPS?) Ok... this company is slow.. but it's in the mail.. I can deal.

July 27 - 10 AM - still no poster. What is up?? So I call back and end up talking to a really nice rep. She does some research. Apparently something happened at the event.. and this item wasn't able to be produced.. so no one can get it. Umm ok.. why didn't you call me and tell me?? why did the last chic say it was shipped?? She offers to send me a couple of my pics in place of the poster.. Cool with me, I order 3 pics which equals more then what the poster was. Here is where they are trying to make me a happy customer even though they really messed up :)

July 27 - 1PM - M calls. Your poster came in the mail. What? My poster? The one they couldn't produce? Very interesting. Sure enough.. I go home and there is my poster :) 13 weeks later!

I really wonder how some companies can stay in business! Let's see how long it takes them to send out the prints.... she said 2-3 weeks :)

and the answer is....

BLUD. Nothing to do with the body fluid. Found out this weekend it stands for Big Lick Ultimate Disc. Thought since I talked so much about the Blacksburg Mountain High Tournament I should let ya'll know how it went. Honestly.. I was really not looking forward to playing all day sat.. but I committed.. so I was there at 8:30AM :) I'm really glad M and I played. Though our team was definitely not the best.. ok maybe the worst... we have a blast. I had no clue how good some of the teams would be! It was great to watch and learn! And learn we did, I'd have to say that was the best Ultimate either of us have played. We won one of the 6 games we played... a couple were blow-outs, a couple we could have easily won with a little more of the luck on our side. Matt gave me 'layout' lessons starting from stage one (on your knees) through stage ?? (on your feet diving for the disc). I have yet to use my new skills in a game.. maybe this thursday :) Picked up some new terminology too... SAVAGE - playing with no subs. Also learned they don't use the 'F' word :) haha I am no worse for the wear.. cept for a couple rolled ankles. Ankle braces are on order :)

Exciting stuff this week:
~ GARY ALLAN! New River Valley Fair wed night :) Might just be the closest Gary has been to Blacksburg! I don't know for sure... but this is something like show 29.
~ Ultimate Summer League Tournament thurs - Shout Out to M and R: Hillbilly Biatches are going down :)
~ Weekend - I'm in town.. with no real plans :) WOOHOO!
~ Saturday - H makes her first stop on her Orlando to LA cross country tour in the BURG :)

FEAR THE MONKEY

A 15-7 (i think) victory over Red Rover clinched the 'regular season champions' title for the THUNDER MONKEYS :) Next thursday night we will win the end of the season tournament :) Then there will be no doubt who the best team is :)

Last night's game was actually really fun. I was the only girl for my team, so I got to play all night. I felt a huge improvement in my game. Maybe not that I played that much better, but I felt more comfortable and not so scared when I got the disc, my throws were on target too.. and not always dumps :) I was making decent offensive cuts which meant I was seeing more of the disc... I still need to work on this though. My team is also very encouraging which is nice. They're always saying 'good d' which just makes me want to keep playing hard :) Especially when I'm marking the frisbee god in a zone d... and can barely breathe I'm so worn out :) I'm really glad R talked M and I into playing, we've had tons of fun, learned lots, and met some great new people :)

#1 lesson learned. Ultimate Players are INSANE. Life revolves around Ultimate! They are laid back yet very intense. M and I got talked into playing in the Blacksburg Mountain High tournament this weekend. Sounds like fun, get in a couple games over two days. Oh. no no no, not just a couple games. I just found out the schedule. Sat.. we start at 9am and play 5 hour and half games with 15 minute breaks inbetween. Meaning games will end at 5:30. I told you they are insane! Sat night is some big party.. then we get to play a couple more games on sunday. Should be a very interesting :) Fun and TIRING. This may be my first and last Ultimate tournament :)

Mountain Stage

I feel Lance and I have a common bond now. I road 'ALLEZ' for the third time this morning on the arsenal. Blacksbug is hilly and all... but the arsenal is up... up... up... down... down... down... up... up... up... etc. No little hills either. It was a ton of fun!!! The boys kick my butt going downhill.. though I am gaining some confidence (aka - stupidity) :) Tackling the hills I can hold my own.. I don't win.. but they don't have to wait for me either :) I'm thinking I might just like this biking gig... I know though.. if I ever take a spill... I'm pretty sure that will be the end, I will give it up forever! So for now.. I continue to ride the brakes downhill :)

It's Official... I'm Amazing :)

JK! I saw this on a shirt this weekend and it gave me a good laugh. The woman was wearing a 'curves' shirt and the back said SUPERSTAR... It's Official, I'm Amazing. Mom.. if you join curves, you're not allowed to buy this shirt :) We already know you're amazing anyways :)

It is official, the Thunder Monkeys are no longer undefeated. My boys (I didn't really contribute much) played a hard faught game thursday. We were missing a couple key players, well players in general. The first half we had one guy sub, second half the guys had no subs. One of our players 12 year old daughter played with us which gave us a much needed girl sub :) Of course I never seem to have much hope in my team, but they continue to prove me wrong. The game quickly became 5-2 them.. and I was thinking this will be fun.. NOT! We rallied and went on a 6-1 run taking the half 8-6. Games are to 15, win by 2, hard cap at 17. They started off strong in the second half tying it up at 10's. The rest of the game was really close, they'd score we'd score. By the time it was 16's the sun was almost down and seeing the disc was a challenge. They made 17 first :( It was a great game. Our two teams have become summer rivals so the games between us are a bit intense, with attitudes a little stronger and tempers get heated :) Of course I really want to win against M and R!! I'm looking forward to a rematch in the tournament :) (sidenote: M and I were recruited to play for Roanoke in an Ultimate tourney this weekend in Blacksburg :) Really they just needed girls... but I'll pretend they recruited us because of our steller skills.. and of course 'because we're fun')

On the RnR training front... M and I ran 6 miles saturday morning. M's first ever 6 mile run. She didn't even complain or beg me to let her walk a little :) Another M first :) haha I guess I need to rework my training plan and pick it back up now that the knee is better. That's the plan today.. though being lazy has been kinda nice! Back to waking up at 5:30 every morning!

M and I had a great weekend in Fairfax.. but this is already too long... so I'll just tell the funniest story. A friend of friend came to the soccer game with us. We'll call him MA. Keep in mind we hadn't met Ma til sat night. We went to the soccer game, then went out in Clarendon, caping the night with some yummy diner grub. Well we head back to the car around 3am in a drizzling rain. We get to the parking garage and the door is closed.. hmmm the sign says OPEN 5:30AM -2:30AM. OOooops :\ Well at least we hope the car is in there still :) Plan B. MA will take us back to his place for the night an we can get the car in the AM. So we catch a cab to MA's car and head to his 'cottage'. He lives in a cottage that's behind another house. Well on the drive over he starts giving us all these warnings. "just so you guys know... it's kinda a long walk to the cottage... and it's really dark" "and when we get there, wait for me to find my stick, there's tons of spider webs so I'll go first and knock them down" "and we're going to cross over a bridge.. in this rain the creek will prob be a river" "I just don't want you guys to freak out" Very interesting way of not freaking us out! Don't forget it's now like 3:30AM and raining harder. Sure enough.. we take this long walk through someone's backyard.. in the dark.. over bridge.. through a jungle.. to this little cottage. Talk about a horror movie. M and I got to sleep in the world's most comfortable bed ever :) (alone! for those of you wondering) So when we're leaving the next morning Monica takes off down the path right into a cobweb :) haha. In the daylight things aren't so scary.. til I see a stump behind the main house with an AX sticking out of it. me - "So that's how you were going to kill us" MA - "yeah, but you guys had already had such a rough night I decided to spare you" I don't think I can make up a crazier story :) It was a fun night! Maybe I'll tell some more stories later :)

Anonymity

Having a blog really opens your life, at least what you choose to post, to the whole world. Cool is a way, could be sketch, but whatever, you make the choice when you create a blog. It's fun to know friends all over the globe can keep up with the basics of what's going on :)

Then there's comments. My fav part. I love checking to see what people have to think, add, argue, comment about what I've written. And when your commenters break into their own conversations :) It's fun. M is winning with her 15 comment post!

I'm perplexed why people comment anonymously though? (Or maybe I'm just frustrated and confused I can't figure out who everyone is :)) Reasons I can think of...
A - you just forget to type in your name
B - your name is Josh and you think pseudonames are funny (usually they make me laugh)
C - you really don't know me and found my blog randomly so are afraid to post your name. or you're afraid to admit you're stalking me. I'm nice and like meeting new people... add a little to your comment telling me who you are and how you found me :)

WOOHOOO!!!!

First time running in over three weeks!! It felt great! M and I hit up 4 miles tonight. M made the whole thing.. no stopping!! Way to go! I didn't realize how much I would miss running!
